When and where will practices be held? The
practice schedule will be set once teams are rostered. Practices are held on
the softball field at 10 Maddox Lane, Amissville. Depending on each team's
coach's preferences, practices may be held one, two, or more times per week.
When and where will games be played? Games
are usually played on Saturdays, though games on an occasional Sunday
(afternoons) are possible, as are very rare games on weeknights if an opposing
team is close enough. Games on weekends may be either singles OR
double-headers. If scheduled, double-headers are fewer innings than a single
regulation game. Games are played on our home field as well as away: these can
be as far as Northern Virginia and south of Charlottesville. Generally, the
older the team's girls, the farther it may travel to play (and those teams come
here to play, as well).
Is there a team for my daughter? We
form teams according to what ages of girls register. If you register your
daughter(s), but no team becomes available, your registration fee will be
returned to you. Please don't wait to see if there are enough girls before
you register your daughter...if enough do that, there WON'T be a team for her!
What does my daughter need in order to play? She
will need a glove and cleats. The glove is the more important thing; younger
girls can certainly play and practice in regular sneakers, but cleats are
important for girls 10 years old and up for them to play their best. For games,
long black ball pants and socks will be needed; sock color will be determined
for each team. Once color is decided upon, socks (and the black ball pants) may
be purchased through the league OR on your own.
What does the league provide? Each
player will receive a jersey. Of course, the registration fee goes towards lots
of other things: game balls, insurance, equipment, etc. (no, coaches don't get
a penny to coach!).
What if we can't afford the registration fee...or
to buy our daughter a glove or cleats? Just let us know. We'll
make it possible for your daughter to play, regardless!
Let us know if you have
other questions; we'll be happy to help!
